Before I demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge of cave diving = technique, let me say that this is based on a complete lack of knowledge = of cave diving other than where you do it. My question is this. George, even to someone new to this list, your feelings regarding = computers are quite clear - they're good for keeping records and as a = backup to a real depth gauge etc. - no problem with that. I learnt with the BS-AC and although a lot of people new to the sport = seem to regard a computer almost as essential equipment - we still learn = Plan The Dive and Dive The Plan as I'm sure most agencies teach - still = no problem. As I understand cavediving, your initial surveys include dye tests so = you know that any emergence may well be a certain depth below the point = at which you enter the system. My first thoughts seem to suggest that = you could assume a square profile dive at the maximum depth. Restricting = maybe but safe as far as gas and deco requirements go. Then it occurred = to me that some sumps could be below the level of the emergence - is = this the case? If so then you will not know what your max. depth will = be, (there would be no point in doing it if you knew exactly what you'd = find). How do you cope with this? Rgds. Paul Harris
