Wisefish, NO. The individual gases have colors, the mixes are individual
colors together in bands. We only paint the depth on the bottle. Tags have the
mix, and they are removed when the bottle goes into service, and has been
logged
in to the gas sheets. Doubles are transported with tags. If a bottle goes
unused, it is retagged. Once used and the reg removed, it must be reanalyzed ,
retaged, or dumped. We use a colored ta[e marker to help the support divers
sort
the bottle prior to setting them in the water, but this is only for a qick
galance reference. One of our recent Wakulla dives required 108 deco bottles,
so
we needed the color on the usrface.

The depth is painted in three inch high letters longitudinally in the
orientation of the bottle on both sides, so that wherever the bottle is carried
both the diver and the buddy can see what is being breathed. Bottles are always
off and the reg parked on the bottle unles it is being breathed.

These are permanent markings. We do not put little stickers on or color the
bottles. Anybody betting their life on a mix should paint the numbers on or
take
up golf, where using the 7 iron instead of the 5 iron will not kill you.

Using differnet regs or marked regs is blatent stupidity, or depending on any
convoluted system to identify gas, or any other touchie-feelie horseshit. If
you
can not see the bottle, don't dive. In cave, the bottles are never carried past
their depth, in ocean, if you can not see, breath the back gas. If you get
bent,
so what - better than dead. The fact is, trimix actually works great for deco,
I
have done plenty of trimix sneak dives swith only 02 deco, and plenty of ocean
trimix dives with only backgas deco.
