When you do this you are using the CCR as a "fixed" volume fraction semiclosed circuit rebreather ( instead of fully closed ). See Bennet and Elliott 2nd edition for a good description of how this type of rebreather functions. The recently defunct ( and appearantly soon to be resurrected ) BMD rebreather worked on this principle. The current Odysee works on a modified version of this. Barrie Kovish Vancouver, Canada
