Several people asked for my references on the PO2 and bone issue.
Here they are (they're actually pretty standard):

    Deeper into Diving

    The Physiology and Medicine of Diving 4th Edition
    Peter Bennett and David Elliott
    Published: W.B. Saunders Comapny Ltd., 1993
    ISBN 0-7020-1589-X

Both of these are available from DAN (Divers Alert Network).
I believe that Bennett and Elliott mention a theory about fat
cells swelling when exposed to PO2 > 0.6 ATA.
