Normally, when the long hose is clipped, the other guy is on a stage , too, but I have had it happen, and I just unclipped it and passed it, but I could see the problem develop, and had it unclipped before it was needed. You always go with the hose first, the stage handoff will just mean he runs out of gas twice. You can give the guy a stage if you think that will help calm him, momentarily, but the best bet is to get rid of the excess baggage and go for the door. The question implies that you are stage diving, that the other guy can not get gas from his stage(s) or his main gas, so you would likely only have one yourself, and you would breath it out and ditch it. You are always better off to go to air share prior to complete runout so that the donee can operate his wings and has some emergency reserve. A good towing/sir-sharing scheme, like what we use , is almost as fast through the water as normal operation. I towed a partner one mile and made it in about two minutes more than it took to get there in the first place. I was afraid to look at my pressure guage, but then it really didn't matter anyway. I would like to see a butt-mounting, hose-stuffing, ride-on do-whatever-you-want, anything is safe, personal preference version of that not produce a double funeral. -G
