I suspend a camera on a drop line from the boat. When I come to the stop, just retrieve that and take pictures. Usually macro of the plethora of cnidarians & ctenophores eith occassional larvae. Lots of fun. Obviously works only if there are things to take pictures of & viz is adequate. Reading paper backs is a tried method, but, I think, only worth it if hang is real long - say over 45 min.
