The University of Washington Department of Radiology is currently undergoing an MRI study of bone necrosis in scuba divers. The study pretty much focuses on what Robert mentioned, but will be using the aid of MRI to detect and view the necrosis. The study is looking at shoulders, elbows, knees, and hips. The study is still looking for volunteers to do the MRI study. Scanning will continue for the next couple of weeks. If you are in the area, and are at all interested in volunteering for an MRI, send me some email and I'll see that you get in contact with the appropriate people. Yes, I volunteered, and was scanned yesterday. Sorry, no bone necrosis in my body parts. Note: MRI's are painless. No needles, no pain, no discomfort. You just lie on a table (in the machine's tube), and let the machine do it's thing. It's a good time for a nap.
