Given the experience of the divers you claim (and I believe) dive in the UK,
and considering conditions, operational protocols of both the divers and the
boats etc., I see your point. Unfortunately, here in the states, your lowest
grade of diver is in some instances more than some of our Instructors-pretty
sad. Most boats do not have the ability to follow divers drifting free. 

I may have missed one point, and not clearly stated mine. Thanks for
mentioning it.

 The practice of using uplines should be carefully evaluated as to the risk
of not having it with you as opposed to the inconvenience/expense (neither of
which should make a bit of difference) of having it and knowing how to use
it. Given the option, you are clearly better off secured to the wreck as
opposed to drifiting freely.

Everyone on this list should understand this, and I think sometimes we forget
it.
