Then whenever someone posts to the alias, the alias could automatically
verify the public key before sending to everyone on the list.....
Also, the same process that checks the key could strip it out before
mailing it.... in that way, we would be good net citizens and would't
waste bandwidth....

  Andy , two things - this is a classic example of a waste of "bandwidth", and 
two, all of you who don't like what goes on here need to start your own list.
You can keep me off of it, and you will be safe. We have two priveate lists
where we, in turn, do not have to listen to crap about transpacs and spare 
airs, and can discuss real operational dive planning and equipment, as well as 
how to deal with situations without morons interjecting. You guys should do
the same. You could have PGP and without the pros, you  could have great 
dicussions about how to lift dumpsters with five-gallon buckets and how to
dive deco gas on your back, and the advantages of indpendent doubles 
using helmets and cobra guards while buttmounting square lights. What fun!
