Dan, thank Kellon for the article. The thing that I would add to
what he is saying towards the end is that these things should not
be used to cover all gases at once, except in the case of Stone's sump
diving, where if he were able to make the thing a reasonable size,
which he was not, it would have been a good idea. In fact , the rig
that Rod Farb uses is far better suited to what Stone was doing,
and would be the best unit for diving the jungles of Mexico, for
example.

The other thing is that if you put the right sized bottles
on Kellons's unit, you can get a huge time and still have a giant
bailout with you normal open curcuit rig. In fact, Kellon's machine
can be rigged Hogarthian to the tee. For deco, in cave you would stage
deco bottles separately, and in wreck you would carry them with you .
It is insanity to try switching manifolded gasses all around when
you can simply hang a little 40 cu ft bottle, turned off until you
need it , to your gear.

With Kellon's or any other machine, a normal
harness can be used. I realize it is more "techie" to convolute the
obvious, but in the real world, the people who really need these things,
like Oliver Isler, do it differently that what is being taught and touted.

I would suggest that if someone really want to rebreather dive,
they get one like Farb's. If someone want to go long, like we do, get one
of Kellon's, but ignore the techie bullshit that he has been harrased
into, and get him to build you one that you can smoke some cueva with,
the simple version with 121's as the source bottles, not the weenie
techno nerd version with four little poodle tanks.

As usual, I have the non-techie opninion, but then I am not
a "technical" diver at all: I just do what it takes to get the job
done, right down to the lipstick.

By the way, I took the kids to see White Zombie and Filter last
night in Miami, and now have new music for the next video - better than
"More Human than Human". This music is CDS material. They had the biggest
Mosh pit I have ever seen. Today, while the rest of you are out diving,
I am running a 10k with my institutional team from the office.
