Tom, the Odessey units (two) we saw at DEMA were not divable units. It
was displayed in what can only be described as the worst piece of marketing I
have ever seen and in fact would lead anyone to the same conclusion that
I expressed to Volker. I have the literature and there is a technical
Odessey unit. I don't know if it really exists except on paper. As far as
safety is concerned I know what the literature claims it will do in the
event of failure and other claims of reliability. How many diver-hours
have been put on the unit to substantiate the claim of safest on the
market? Compared to say, Draeger or Bio-Marine? Having the fewest number
of working parts, no O2 sensor, mix your own nitrox before you dive it,
passive system does not per se make it the safest system. If you mean it
is the most dumb proof because of these factors and that in itself gives
it an edge in safety- that is debatable. Features of a rebreather that
would increase safety include countermeasures that the diver could take
to overcome system failure that would result in a safe return to the
surface. Depending upon the system to take the countermeasures for you
(as in the case of the Odessey) would be a lesser option. Further, if the
technical Odessey is structured in the same manner as the recreational
unit, not just larger scrubber and gas supply, then it would not be a
safer unit than the BioMarine, Draeger or CisLunar systems. I enjoyed
talking to you at DEMA. I stand corrected. Looking like a POS is not the
same as being a POS. I'd have to dive it to see. Rod
