In Miami we often make deep dives in extreme currents were you can barely pull yourself down to the bottom (some days you can't make it.) We often get strong narcosis at the beginning of dives in the 160-230ft range. Because we are pulling ourselves down the anchor line, we are in the "skydiver" position that you mention to minimize our drag. This would seem to conflict with the "head-rush" hypothesis.
