|Would you knowingly dive with someone who would not give you the

|making is that this attitude is implicit in the way the "hose

|regulator out of your mouth, then you have no business diving".

Well, were not just talking about *taking* the regulator out of your mouth.
When a diver needs air, based on the experience stories here and my own,
the panicked diver IS going to take the reg out of your mouth. You really do
not 
have much choice in the matter. If you have time for choice in the matter 
then great. That little fact makes breathing the long hose a much better choice.
