Carl. "you " is a convenient substitute for "one" . I
know how you do your gear. We will see what Chris says, but
I can't see how the left side can cleanly support a reg, so
I was assuming he only meant the prgblem of starting the
long hose and the pressure guage from the wrong side.

The stage regs need go around the neck into the mouth
from the their origination on the left side of the diver.
In the case of a third or left hand stage, this gets more
troublesome. If I am going a long way, I put it aropund my
neck, short way I just put it to my mouth. The only reason
not to go straight tot he mouth is the possibility it gets
blown out and you momentarily lose gas (the hose caught in
the moving water).

Just to skip my part of the stage argument, both on the
left where they are out of the way of the hose, the light, and
the wash of the scooter, which is triggered from the right side
by the right hand, while the left hand holds the light and
operates the two inflators (dry and wing) and rests on the
two stages , keeping them close in out of the flow. This
precludes more d-rings, as the thirds stage is held on at
the top d-ring, and at the bottom slides along the belt,
where the bolt snap is resting, and the flow of the scooter
keeps it in position, just outside the slipstream.

You will find that this allows multiple bottles without
a commensurate loss of speed due to being in the envelope of
mostly moving water , where on a rideon every addition is a
direct cross section to the oncoming water, and slows you down.
