Political correctness aside I just wanted to point out the "scientific" falsehood in your argument for those who might be intereste. Smoking binds up the Hb with CO so O2 transfer is reduced. The TAR will gum up the alveoli also making O2 transfer less efficient. Your body consumes O2 at a rate proportional to your metabolic activity which also controls the pH of the blood and the urge to breathe. Now, either way - i.e. if your rigger is blood pH - high CO2 OR if it's O2 triggerd as is the case with COPD patients you're going to have a higher breathing rate due to the continuously low O2 and high CO2 percentages around. So, it will actually take MORE air to transfer the same amount of O2 to your body and your expired O2 percentage will be higher than normal. Smoke that! -Carl-
