John, I can not follow what you are saying. Why is is safer to have the reg you share hidden away, and what is the difference between having the short hose around your neck on a leash or not on a leash (as in the case of the short hose breather). Proper gear config makes being a good buddy a lot easier, John, not a "crutch". I would not want this attitude within the boundaries of the place I was diving, nor would I go out on a boat that had people with this attitude - luckily, again , I don't have to put up with this kind of nonsense - nobody in our group thinks that way, and when we go out wreck diving, we call the ball. Rule number one applies to people who can not deal with bad situations properly - the quintessential "stroke" , hence the importance we place on this rule. There is no "proper" way to stuff a long hose, is there? "Travel" gas is a term used for the gas breathed until the bottom mix is breathable, or in cave diving, if there is a distance at a shallow depth followed by a deep depth. Diving deep on air, and euphamisticly referring to it a "travelling" reminds me of the Merle Haggard song, where he sings "we don't take our trips on LSD". When you are through with ANY gas, it should be turned off and the regulator stowed - ask Sherwood Schille. You will recall he drowned with about 200 cubic feet of gas on him - he just didn't know where - another reason I won't put up with convoluted bullshit from anyone diving with me - discipline keeps you alive. Excuses to cover other convolutions is ridiculous. You still have not said why stuffing is a good idea. I think you made some irrecoveralble typos in the other post, as I can not understand the meaning. It looks like you are saying one should breath the long hose, but then you say no. Which is it? Another thing, JC, stop calling this thing a "technique". As you can see, John, I am trying to avoid use of the "S" word, and am taxing the limit of my English vocabulary to do so. I reallly suspect that you are suffering from deco fear, and working your diving around it. My suggestion - throw away the Crea tables and get on with it- you're a tough guy - don't be a deco weenie. - G
