With all this talk about what is appropriate for this mailing list, I have a few comments. I agree that advertising is a no-no. And I like to loosely define advertising as "something I know exists and could find out about if I looked". For example, a post about a dive shop in Florida is advertising because I know such things exist and I know how to find out about them. A new product (rebreather, face mask, etc) may or may not be advertising depending on the product. But a note about an organization like a new tech diving certification agency is not advertising because it is something that I don't know exists. I don't think anyone would have complained if Tracey had mentioned that she heard about this new agency instead of posting the official announcement. In fact, it probably would have been appreciated. So what's the difference? I think her apology shows more class than a number of people here have shown. And while I'm spewing opinions, I'd like to say that I sort of think of this list as an on-line Aqua Corp. That is the level of information I look for when I read things here and most often that is exactly what I get. I think the signal/noise ratio here is very good. However, once in a while I see something that is not at all tech-diving in nature. Recently, the posting of the tide schedule in Boston and the posting about a pond clean-up come to mind. I DO NOT WANT TO IMPLY THAT THESE THINGS ARE NOT WORTHY OF BEING NETWORK TRAFFIC. They are very worth-while messages and I'm sure they are useful to many people. However, they really don't have anything to do with tech-diving and are probably more appropriate for a newsgroup like rec.scuba or the scuba-l mailing list. The reason I only read tech-diving and not these others very often is that I just don't have the time and my main interest is in tech-diving. I'd like to see this group stay pure if that is possible. Just my opinions. Thanks for reading. Devon
