George, who by the way seems very laid back these days, recently added to
another deep air/tech agency thread by saying:

I just read an article by Gilliam in the TDI newsletter in which he
explains his penchant for deep air dives. The basic message is "It
shouldn't surprise you to learn I dive deep on air, but it's not a good
idea for you to try it." To me that sounds a lot like "fuck you" to the
people in TDI who have a problem with The Head Guy's diving habits - Sounds
like you were right Dennis :-).

For the Record: TDI has a course called Extended Range Diver. Maximum depth
is posted at 200fsw. I don't teach it because everything it's supposed to
cover can be dealt with in courses that have a more sustantial goal. And
IMHO diving deeper than about 140 on air in cold, dark water is dangerous,
really pointless and a logistical nightmare. However, there are a few guys
from TDI Canada on this list and I'd be interested in finding out if they
run this course and what at what maximum depth. I know the director of TDI
teaches it in about 135 to 140.

The point is, I like Gilliam personally but agree 100% with George, if you
have a desire to do it deep on air, you're on your own....
