It seems that they use a certain type of cable that is strung along the mine and when they use their radios, the radio waves ride along the cable until it is picked up by a radio receiver. I think the theory is called wave propogation and as I recall I read about it in a book on mine communication. I thought it might be nice to have a small metal line inbedded in the cave line that could at least be used for communication on the other side of a sump. Happy Caving, MarkP
