Randy, you have hit upon what I was complaining about
on Compuserve: the general level of do-it-yourself misinformation
being touted by pesons who present themselves as being pro's. I
don't care about Crea and Comly and Joel Markwell badmouthing
me - at least it keeps them busy and away from this forum.
Every once in a while I will go over there and ask them when the
last time they did any of the things they are blabbering
about, or when they have ever done any of the things the person
they are badmouthing does every weeekend.
Along those lines, perhaps you could give us the real
scoop on O2 cleaning , if for no other reason than to prevent
someone from doing something that would result in an accident.
Personally, I have only ever O2 cleaned one bottle, and luckily,
it got stolen . I have never O2 cleaned or prepped any other bottle
or reglator ever, and I personally think it is nonsense. At 3500 PSI
in a scuba tank the ppo2 is 100 TIMES GREATER than what it takes
to ignite diesel fuel in a Detroit Deisel engine. If you have
heat, fuel, and compression, you have ignition. Cleaning your tank
will not solve these problems. What do you do about the bottles you
get from the supplier?
Obviously we don't want contaminants in any breathing tank,
and obviously more oxygen wears out rings faster. So what . I have
never let a regulator go more than a few months without service,
and I look in my tanks at least once a month.
It would be nice, however, for those who are ruuning
around misinformed, if you would put out the real way to do this
for those who would do it.
By the way, I appreciate the catalogue of items that
you sent me. Sooner or later I will have to get a real guage for
my banks, and I will give you a call.- G
