Yeah, I've had somewhat similar experiences on trimix as well (usually
with END of about 220 fsw or so) What was your mix? Was the
oxygen/nitrogen ratio the same as air, or did you have a higher relative
proportion of oxygen?

As fo the CO2, yes I think this ultimately IS what causes the "cold" symptoms
(part of the reason why they get more severe with exertion).

This brings up another interesting point. I thought I was alone on this,
but your message made me think otherwise....perhaps it would be a good
question to pose to the trimix divers in this group.

I've noticed on trimix dives with air + helium trimix (i.e. ratio of
oxygen:nitrogen is 1:4, like air), that the narcosis at a given END is
somewhat greater than the narcosis on air at the trimix END. (in other
words, breathing trimix 10/50 at a depth of 430' causes more narcosis than
air at 200', even though the air partial pressure is the same at both
depths). Am I the only one who experiences this? Could this be due to
the small contribution to narcosis of helium? I don't think it's HPNS
because the same applies to shallower depths, where HPNS wouldn't be a
problem. Anybody got any ideas?

Aloha,

Rich
