While I'm not a chemical engineer, I have several years of mixing both
nitrox and trimix, and mix on a average of several hundred cylinders a year.

I have to disagree with your statement that rolling cylinders in to ensure
proper mixing prior to analyzing is "hogwash" I have seen the results first
hand. Mild agitation will infact reduce the time needed for complete mixing
prior to analyzing.

Granted given ample time the two gases (oxygen & nitrogen) will mix just if
left alone. But this is not always the case with technical divers.

Now I do agree with you regarding gas separation once the gases have been
completly mixed, (seperation doesn't happen).

Take Care
