Hold off George and Bill, the subject is meant to be like the current trend of computer training manuals (Windows for Dummies, etc). Keep going :-) The "February 1996" (sad but true) issue of _Sport_Diver_ (a magazine for wimp divers, but not as bad as Skin Diver or some other rags) features an article "In Quest of Karst" by Michael Weiskoff. While it isn't a fountain of technical information, it was an excellent overview of the Woodville Karst (even explains what a Karst is) and provides great general background info for anyone else out there who may wonder just what WKPP is all about. I knew from reading here that George and company were into some heavy stuff down there, but this is a great background article. It may not however meet with George's blessings, I'm just speaking from the sidelines. The article mentions Parker Turner, and his demise. It also mentions that, and I quote, "several years ago WKPP became an official project of the National Speleological Society - the nation's premier caving fraternity." Given the recent friction between George and the NSS/CDS I'll defer to him. He is mentioned once, "WKPP divers, under the direction of Parker Turner, George Irvine and Bill Gavin, have performed some remarkable feats in the Leon Sinks Cave System." The article has a footnote "Michael Wisenbaker has spent more than two decades documenting the Woodville Karst Plain both above and below ground, logging more than 500 dives in the process." Again, not much technical info or details here, just fluff, but I found it to be very informative (not knowing much about WKPP to start with). The AquaCorps article has been discussed here recently, but I don't get AC, so I can't comment; just thought it might be worthy of note what the general diving community is being told about WKPP in this publication. It was a decent article (IMHO), never knew Silver Spring and others were considered part of a larger, comprehensive system of caves down there. Go get 'em, George Jeff Kell <jeff@ut*.ut*.ed*>
