Russ, I agree that their are other materials available for thin suits, however I have not found them to be more durable than vulcanized rubber. Also, vulcanized rubber sutis were designed with field repairs in mind. I can repair or replace any component of a vulcanized suit in the field in approx. a half hour. I don't miss dives a remote locals due to suit problems. Also, I always use dry gloves (Lake Superior is not the warmest dive site) and heavy duty wrist seals. Dry gloves can fail, the extra, durable protection is good.
