Subject: Re: 4 days to train from 100 to 240 on AIR
     Charles,
I have never taken a course with Mr. Watts, but I attended a session at TEK last
year, in which a point, similar to yours, was made. Watts responded by stating,
in substance, that after completing one of his deep air courses (the 300 footer,
specifically), the "student" was not really qualified to conduct his own dives
to that depth. He described how two guides "held the hand" of the student, and
took him down, and back up. The way the "course" was explained, made it seem
more like a guided tour to 300 feet, rather than a training session.

Watts also presented a half day Deep Air course at 95TEK for $99 (plus a $25
text). The TEK brochure described the session as "Classroom lecture and PSA
certification". I did not attend that session, however I spoke to Watts on the
phone about it prior to the conference. He told me that the clinic did not
provide any certification; to get his C-card, the diver needed to travel to 40
Fathoms and complete the in-water sessions (extra fee).

The conclusion that I came to was: If you've got alot of money, but little time
or desire to learn to dive deep, but you want to go to 300 feet NOW, the
experience might be worth it. Otherwise....maybe not.

It seems that you can be trained by Hall & group to dive to 240 fsw
on air in only 4 days. This is from a start of 100 feet what they
call a level one diver.
There is also an option for 300 feet on air but no price is quoted, I
guess you have to call so they can make sure you have no brain before
they take your money.

My problem is not only the deep on air, but also the 4 days to go
from 100 to 240. It seems that at the end of the four days, a diver
is ready to make these dives, receiving some sort of certification.

Anyone else see the insanity in this?
