An equipment question with not a hint of politics or personal invective that I can see: How often should valves (k, in this case) be overhauled, and what should this involve? The tech at my Friendly Neighborhood Dive Shoppe said, essentially, "if they ain't broke, leave 'em alone". Now, while this sort of proves that the shop is not a bunch of money-grubbing fast-talking bottom-line types, I think of all that pressure and wonder....Other than yearly changing of the blow-out plugs, nothing has been done to these valves in over a decade. I also remember that they seem to have done a pretty casual overhaul of my old (but of so lovable) Swimaster MR-12 regs last year (can't be sure, but that didn't look like a new diaphragm...). In this vein, are there any shops/businesses that specialize in gear repair and overhauls? As I said, I'm not really confident in my present shop, and don't feel like trying all the local shops out, one by one, without any real way of knowing if they are any better than my present FNDS. Rather let FEDEX do the walking.
