Another thing I forgot about; it's very good for keeping the harness down where it's supposed to be on the surface. I do have enough experience to vouch for this one. One my second or third dive with doubles I forgot to hook up the crotch strap before going over the side. When the saftey diver handed my stage bottle to me, I couldn't find the lower D ring I wanted to clip the bottle to. Since my crotch strap was unhooked and my BC was almost fully inflated, I was hanging in the harness by the shoulder straps and the whole rig had ridden up on my body. I figured out what I'd done wrong, handed the stage back to the boat, connected the crotch strap and started over. Second time I had no problem. So the crotch strap makes the whole BC a bit like a climbing harness; you end up 'sitting' in it on the surface instead of hanging from your arms. Since you don't use stages, this probably wouldn't be very usefull. Scott.
