We use winterised Poseidon Odins on a single tank with a Y valve. Our =
diving is all directly below the hole on life line and is rarely deeper =
than 30 m.
I've tried winterised versions of teh Conshelf, Scubapro Mk 10 and =
Sherwood Magnum Blizzard but they all failed dramitacally fairly early.

Hi Steve,

I am interested in this one. By "winterise" do you mean putting the rubber
cap on the 1st stage with some anti-freeze fluid, or was there more?
What water temperatures were you experiencing?
Did you have any freeze-up symptoms, or was it not even close?

I have heard a couple of tenuous stories about Odins freezing shut, but I have
never been able to do this in trials in winter.

The coldest water we get is in quarries in winter when it gets down to 4 degC.

When you purge the 2nd stage for about 20 seconds, you get solid ice forming
inside which locks the pilot pin in tilt, perpetuating a free flow.
If the ice did manage to seal the pilot pin shut, this would cause air
shut-off, assuming that ice had not formed inside the main outlet holes,
jamming the bladder open.

Anyone else got any theories?
