Sheck Exley imploded so many cylindrical light housings on his early
deep record dives that he decided to try one filled with water (at least
I think it was water) to begin with.
Seems the small amount of air inside the batteries still created a problem.
The filled light imploded at about 860 ft.
He solved the problem quite neatly with a Dive-Rite Neutralite which was
modified by the addition of a thin sheath of aluminum inside the housing.
Dive-Rite tested this light to over 1000 fsw in a test chamber and it
worked flawlessly on the 860 ft. dive at Bushmansgat.
PS- All this hype about Dive-Rite lights being inferior is more a
reflection of someone's neurotic desire to discredit the folks at
Dive-Rite than an accurate assesment based on fact. .. Paul Smith
