I hesitate to recommend them, but I use some old Gibbs ascenders in a lot of
diving applications. I tried Jumars, they have the advantage of spring loading,
but the open gate caused problems when the load twisted, or took a
less-than-vertical strain. They also suffered mightily from corrosion.
The Gibbs units completely capture the rope, but require modification (beef up
the spring) to securely hold on a wet line. They are small, handy and secure,
but I still use a prusik knot (with a MAJOR difference in line size) in critical
applications.

I want to get a set of ascenders ( like Jumars ) for use underwater
( and probably above ). However I have no idea which brand is going
to be best for use underwater or how to rig them to my gear. Does anyone
on this list have any recommendations?
