I think it is self-evident that the tool of choice for all the top gun's is the Gavin. If for no other reason that Trey, Trout, and the rest have pointed out it is a core component of the DIR system of Tools and attitude and it is proven, time and time again. Who gives a crap if you can go to the henkel 1 min faster than the other guy (we all know who will be towing your ass out with the nose of your scooter buried in the mud). Back to the systematic component, if one takes a look at why the WKPP works and sets records time and time again...look to the aspect of team work not single heros with lightning fast scooters.......and effective team work requires the consolidation and streamlining of tools (dive gear) and attitudes. Your buddy and support crew better darn well know your tools just as well as you do. And it appears to me that if (and when) one of those break down you have little choice but to leave it (no one likes towing a danforth anchor behind them). I could be wrong but I choose to dive with the Big Boys who DIR and they dive Gavins. Ivanic; cavers@cavers.com Subject: Re: read this gavin owners Johnny Rotten is correct. The Zepp is a blast to ride. I had one of the big ones myself. It will outrun a Gavin speed wise. It will go upstream as he says and is indeed the scooter of choice if all you want to do is go in in a straight horizontal line in open water. The story goes that Joseph Ruprecht, inventor and builder of the Aquazepp, built the first one to escape underwater from E. Germany to West, and for that, this scooter is perfect. But ask him: 1. how much room he needs to turn 180 degrees. Mine took roughly a football field's width. 2. Ask him how quickly it responds when you want to change depths. 3. Ask him kow many guys it takes him to carry it to the water. 4. Ask him how he knows when his prop has cut the line since this is a ride on and his eyes are forward of the prop. 5. Ask him if he gets sick and tired of having to stop and reach back to switch between 12 and 24 volts (there is a lever that sits right about where your knees wind up and it gets bumped all the time...it is one of the two ways you change speeds). 6. Ask him how he keeps up with a buddy since he only has 4 fixed speeds, not an infinitely variable amount such as is found on a variable pitch scooter. 7. I am not 100% sure, but I thought the zepp did not have a clutch. Maybe it does. If not, ask him how he stops the prop when it sticks on. 8. And finally, and this would be my favorite, ask him why Wakulla I used zepps and Wakulla II (tried to) used (poor) Gavin knockoffs. Ride-ons do not work, but at least he bought the best ride-on out there. Tell your friend it is not a mistake to buy shit, but try try to tell others it is "Da Bomb" really makes him look pretty stupid. Trout ----- Original Message ----- From: "John E.
