Tom, This can be forwarded to the list since it represents the accurate picture: The student at Little River under private instruction from Paul Heinerth was "interested" in the possibility of cave training and diving double tanks. She is very petite, but 25 years old. She did an orientation dive in the open water at Little River on the double tanks and some preliminary cavern swims with a reel down to the permanent guideline and back a couple of times. She carried her own doubles up and down the steps at Little River and with the guidnace of her instructor and fiance chose to delay continued training until she had an opportunity to spend some time at the gym preparing to carry double tanks. She was quite sore after the day's activities. I hope everyone recalls how challenging it can be when starting anything new in life. Sometimes we need a "taste" to see how much we have to learn. After a discovery experience with a trained and sensitive instructor, sometimes individuals can then have a better appreciation for the preparation that they will need before continuing dive training. Everyone deserves to have the chance to learn and be a "guppie." Most of the divers on this list will likely recall less than graceful times in their past. When new divers are nurtured, they often blossom into wonderful, talented and carfeul technical divers. Sometimes they don't. We all deserve a right to try.
