Hi Brett,

Looks like you really screwed up again. You'd better just go back to school
and learn not only about economics and government, but also about the
military chain of command.

<< So I guess you are saying that socialism is not a theory based on the
belief
that all, while contributing to the good of a community, are equal, none
better
than the other, equally entitled to the same quality of care and protection
that
the community can provide? >>

You bet your bippie that that's what I'm saying. You have just described
communism, which is distinctly different from socialism. In socialism, if
you contribute more to the community then you are entitled to receive greater
benefits from the community. Not so with communism.

<< Socialism is not a singular "economic ideal" as you put it, but, a
theory
which takes on different forms based on the stresses applied to it (i.e.
Marxian Socialism, Democratic Socialism, Christian Socialism, etc. etc.).
Anyway one looks upon it, all forms of the theory agree in being opposed to
uncontrolled capitalism (unregulated private ownership of businesses for the
sake of profit) and seek equality of opportunity for all members of the
community. >>

I have no argument with this, but it has nothing whatever to do with what we
were talking about.

<< I reiterate, the military is set up on the theory of socialism. Now
you
think back to Poly Sci. 101 wherever you took it from; Socialism is a theory,
dictatorships are a form of government, totalitarianism is a form of
government, the military in the U.S. is not a form of government, last I
looked. >>

You have got to be kidding me. Of course the military is a form of
government. It is a dictatorship of the highest order. You just try not
doing what your superiors order you to do and you'll find that out real
quick. Personal liberty is subjugated to the community in the military.

<< So from now on if you want to call somebody a dictator or tyrant
just do it by name and don't try to take a cheap shot over my shoulder, don't
question my education, don't play semantics, or fuck with me. I knew better
than to post that, hell I don't even discuss politics with my mother-in-law
much less.... >>

I haven't got the slightest idea of what you are talking about. You
obviously have a bee up your tail, but I really think that it has nothing
whatever to do with me. Perhaps you should look inward to find the cause of
your angst. And by the way, I see no reason that resorting to cursing will
help anything. Remember that raising your voice is not the appropriate
reaction when what is really needed is to strengthen your argument.

All I commented on was that I believed that "I'm afraid that the military is
definitely not an example of socialism. A dictatorship, yes.
Totalitarianism, yes. But socialism, no way." Everything else to which you
seem to be objecting, appears to come from your own imagination.

In any case, this discussion has little to do with technical diving, so if
you'd like to continue, let's take it private and keep it off the list.

Take care and safe diving, Scott

last I looked. Get your facts straight and come clean with us. Your problem
is
not with the theory of socialism or how it is run. You said so yourself and I
