Lee, Where the hell do you get this shit? You are so good at being WRONG! I was not given one penny for the computer that I bought when asked to edit UWS. I spent $2100 on my Power Computing Macintosh clone, which I still have, and $785 on a MAG Innovision 17" display. Why I spent that money when I didn't need the computer for work at that time I'll never know. I also spent over $300 of my own money Fed Exing, mailing, copying, getting photographs burned onto CD, buying paper, software and so on. The CDS DID buy a laser printer, which Beth Somers has (the current editor). If anyone owes ANYONE money, it's the BOD that owes me, I'm out cash, not the membership (it is their money, BTW). At the time I was so disgusted with the whole array of bozos that I never pursued it, I collected together the receipts then said, "screw it!" I believe that I was reimbursed some money on a scanner early on, but my cash outlays far exceeded that small amount. I'll pose for an audit ANY DAY, dipshit, where my tortured tenure as editor is concerned. That I FAILED as editor, I take ultimate responsibility for, but the money is a non-issue and that anyone thinks otherwise is a testament to what an inbred, gossipy nest of snakes occupies the inner recesses of some of the darker holes of the CDS. When I took over as editor I was promised that my ONLY job would be to edit the newsletter. I was promised a liason to the Board, someone to acquire the articles (so that I could focus on the lay-up), someone to sell the advertising, someone to do the Member's Manual and the CDS printer assured me she understood and could do digital. NONE of the above happened--EVER. NOT ONE PERSON DID THEIR JOB--not even a small part of it! The liason disappeared until the shit hit the fan and then surfaced in the 10th inning. NO--ZERO articles were ever provided by Mr. Article Wrangler. NO--ZERO ads were sold by the ad man, I arranged for them and in some cases even created them. The printer didn't know DICK about digital publishing and was a hindrance, not a help. At one point they had an issue of UWS in their hands for two months before printing it. The Member's Manual was unceremoniously dumped in my lap a couple of weeks (?) after I started. When I got the member's list it was completely out of date and inaccurate, in fact it took the Board's gopher three attempts and three weeks to send me one that wasn't off by 400 members. I was forced to update the lists myself and that took over a month (that list that I updated was eventually used to set up the member's list on the website). Robert Laird was the only person who did and still does his job, although to be fair, the editor of another dive mag was good enough to offer to help with scanning slides etc. I think two other members volunteered as time wore on for proofreading, etc. Don't get me started on this . . . . The current Editor, Beth Somers has done a superb job. She managed to HERSELF find the help she needed to get the job done and succeeded where I failed. She and I have remained friends. But I will never be ashamed of the fact that I made a sincere effort and put several hundred hours of effort and many dollars into volunteering there and elsewhere. I know that the hardest job in the CDS is Editor, as I suspect is the case at the NACD. For those of you who read the newsletters and enjoy them, take the time to thank them because they rarely get thanks for what they do. Lee, you are truly a totally classless act and CLEARLY a moron. You must surely have to have the word "BREATHE" taped to the inside of your dive mask or else you'd be taking the big dirt nap right now. Try not to speak. JoeL
