At most big airports there's also more than one possible security checkpoint
and x-ray machine through which you can enter the gate area.

If some minimum wage airport renta-cop told me to go back to the to the
baggage check-in to check a battery that I knew was legal to carry, my first
response would be to circle around and try my luck at another security
checkpoint. I did this sucessfully last week in Seattle when one security
guard objected to the leatherman tool in my briefcase--which had passed
through at least 100 previous airport security checks without incident.
