    Since we don't have the chance to ask the guy himself what happened,
what caused him to panic, I think it's useful to look at all indicators.

    What _caused_ his panic? Equipment problems? It's a possibility. Of
course we don't know for sure, but if he was diving with some funky gear,
that's useful to know.
