Hi Larry... we have been using a Brunton 8097 Eclipse... it is accurate to one degree, so, being very careful, you can actually read as accurate as 1/2 degree. we use it in sump surveying and have been able to reach BCRA5 accuracy when down there... it helped a lot in joining two different survey legs and the error was minimal... it is a forestry type compass and very very simple to use... the only setback is that you are supposed to match the two concentric circles - it is a little bit time demanding, but this is not exactly a problem when surveying shallow sumps... it costs about $37,00 plus shipping in Campmor... cheers!
