John, safety is SOP for the WKPP - we have nothing to prove, as it has
already been done for us by the "competition". Our real challenge this
year is Turner Sink. We had been locked out for the last two years until
we were able to come to an agreement with St Joe Paper. While Wakulla is
adequate practice for the real thing in Leon Sinks, Turner Sink
represents the next level: 290 on the roof in a strong sypon with no
walls and noplace to decompress . We have also found Wakulla Beach Cave
to be a rough one - both directions , and as we get closer to the Gulf
in the System, including Wakulla, the syphons pick up and the vis gets
worse.

We have tricked out the Halcyons and are using multiple 2 1/2 hour
scooters ( @ $250 per set of 50 amp batteries, not 8 grand ), but the
bulk of what we will be doing is still "open circuit heroics" , good
teamwork, and a lot of stamina.

One precedent that has been set for us by the usdct is that we will no
longer be tiptoing around trying to be discreet and missing work during
the week begging for a chance to dive when conditions are correct and
arguing with lifeguards and other "officials" about our proceedures
after the usdct used mobile homes, barges, bells, chambers etc, fenced
off the swim area and sat there for three months with their salamis in
their hands- we will be diving wekends, and that will mean more of our
team and more new players will be able to join us at all sites.

Also, after watching these strokes roll the dice with a contempt for
safety born of ignorance, desperation to be big shots, and stupidity, I
am not going to answer to anyone on any of these issues ever again.
These guys are all like 'possums crossing the road - many don't get hit,
and that is the bet they are making. It is the Alfred E Newman strategy.
Life is worthless when you don't have one , the common bond of the
usdcters.
