Yes, playing with surplus nicads is almost as much fun as the baskets 
they let us make here at the home <:) There are a couple of commercial
battery boxes that will hold 4 D cells for headlamps. How waterproof
do they need to be? Do you want to belt mount them? How light- compact
do you want them to be?
