I forgot a most important point: All of our nitrox bottles are tagged and initialed by the person filling them, with the date and mixture. That is accomplished with a little cardboard tag on the valve, which supplements the "NITROX" sticker. (the sticker does not indicate the mix) The tanks can be rechecked by the diver prior to use.The diver can post the MOD on the tank, with duct tape, if he or she deems it necessary. Has anyone heard of this? I think it related to relaxed gas handling rules. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Here at NOAA, all of our Nitrox is premixed into banks of EANx32 or 36. It's then decanted via haskel into dedicated nitrox tanks. Since the premixed gas is less than 40% O2, the tanks are not oxygen cleaned, or prepared for O2 service. However, The air used to make the nitrox is pumped by an oil free compressor, and, The mixing tank (storage tanks) are O2 clean, since they receive pure O2. It has always been the presumption here that: 1. premix of less than 40% O2 does not require an O2 cleaned tank. 2. The only reason to use a dedicated tank for a mixture of less than 40% is to prevent confusion over its contents. 3. Nitrox of less than 40% dies not require a deticated regulator. The same regulator can be used for regular old air. Andy Cohen
