I finally read that article in Aquacorps about Gilliam and Odem, as well
as
Mike Menduno's commment on it.
I agree with Menduno.
I have two other comments: 1) these guys set a bad example, and are
clearly
think they have demonstrated some great ability. I have been diving with
Gilliam, and I can tell you that he posesses no special talents, at least
relative to what I consider normal. Maybe to a student he is a good diver or
has
a good breathing rate. Not in my league.
When Gilliam or Oden can do underwaters with me in a fifty meter pool,
then they will have a good breathing rate. But that requires more pesonal
sacrifice than most peole are willing to make/
Number 2) - you all know the cave diving I do. Odem is director of the
CDS, a cave diving organization. He is insignificant as a cave diver. He has
done nothing in our arena.
If any of you out there think that what these guys are doing is a
demonstration of ability or something to be emulated, I would suggest you are
wrong. If you must, go someplace where there is warm , clear water. Drop down
a little with a redundant rig and a buddy on gas. Share gas with the buddy.
You will see what this is all about - nothing. Raimo apparently figured that
out
by himself.
The reason people do this and have accidents is guys like Gilliam and
Odem who try to glorify what amounts to nothing more than drug use, in my
opinion.
