I received a letter from Steve Gerrard which is about three weeks old. It
lokks like the form lettes he sends to everyone, as there is nothing in the
letter that would be idiosyncratic to me. Usually he mentions things that would
be of interest only to the two of us, but not this time, so it appears to be a
promotional piece, which is fine, since news from he Yucatan is hard to come
by,
and the peole down there are providing all of us with some great diving when we
want it.

Anyway, what Gerrrard asks in his letter is that I put a message on here
saying that everything is intact down there after the hurricane. All facilities
are up and running. The only thing different is that the jungle was defoliated,
which is really too bad, since it is a beautiful tropical jungle, full of
orchids and such.

He points out that the DeRosa's have a generator and compressor , as well as
hotel, tanks, and vehicles. The DeRosas , Tony and Nancy , are very nice people.
They make staying at their place like veing at home.

However, my good friend Mike Madden also has an operation down there at
Puerto Aventuras, a beautiful place with full facilities, hotel , marina, good
restaurants (nothing is as good as Nancy DeRosa's cooking), vehicles, tanks,
guides , etc. Mike owns a string of dive shops, and also runs the marina
complex, is partners with the devlopers, some high-powered Mexicans, and can
"get things done" as they say.

While Mike may not have the time to devote to you that Gerrard does, they
both will show you a great trip. I go to both places, DeRosa's becaasue I like
the DeRosas, and it is convenient for me (I know my way around, speak the
language, etc), and I go to Mike's when I want to dive with Mike, who is as
hard
a hitter as they get. Puerto also has the charter boats for sailfishing, and
even a sushi bar, in case we have a bet going. There is a ferry boat that runs
from Puerto to Cozumel.

If you want the real scoop on who to play with and who to avoid, email me
privately. If you want to know where the REALLY GOOD stuff that the NSS weenies
have hidden from you, email me privately. I will show you detailed maps on
everything they have, where the best entrance is, where the best passages are
hidden.

Gerrard will be at the NACD workshop with information on trips to the
Yucatan, if you need phone nymbers for Madden, Gerrard, DeRosa, or anyone else
in Mexico, email me.

    George Irvine
