Sten, It's true that flowmeters are typically calibrated for fixed density. Using mass, not volumetric, flowmeters and the appropriate conversion factor for other gases or compounds, accurate flow rates (+/- 1% full scale including linearity over 15-25 degrees C) is available. The negitive is that I've only seen units (transducers) only able to handle a maximum 500 psi, to date. Mass flow flowmeters appear to offer the best opportunity because of electronic correction of the PV = nRT relationships but to date, there has not been a demand for development of transient flow measurement of high pressure gases.
