We have been using a type of isolation manifold which I believe is marketed as a Scuba pro in other parts of the world. It is a 232 bar unit which is distributed by Sterling - Australia and manufactured (I think) by Faber - Italy. It seems to fit the description of a Scuba pro given by George Irvine in his last post on this subject - barrel type O-ring connections etc. One of our group recently had an O-ring failure with one of these units - fortunately out of the water. We are pretty sure this failure happened because the cross-over was not screwed in to the tank valve housings to its maximum turns. (There was 1 or 2 turns of thread left on one side) This is the first failure we have experienced in probably 1500 dives or more and we are confident that the cause was human error when the rig was being assembled. The above incident didnt worry us too much (other than to make everyone more careful when assembling rigs) Recently we have also heard rumours that other divers have had some problems with manifolds and if true it is obviously cause for concern. I would be very interested to hear about any specific instances of manifold failures - especially if they involve the Scuba pro type. Chris Vautin {CVAUTIN@Oz*}
