On the Essence of Leadership and Self Expression. "I realized an important truth: I was never going to be completely happy with positional power." "What I really wanted was personal power ---- influence ---- based on voice." "Leaders have no interest in proving themselves, but an abiding interest in expressing themselves." "All in all, becoming a leader is the same as becoming yourself. It is precisely that simple, and --- also that difficult." Quotes from Warren Bennis. On the Essence of Life, Leadership, and Self Expression. "Power and Control". This is the stuff that is created out of the arena where communication -- that very thread of connectedness between humans -- is corrupted and dies and ultimately disappears. Power and Control. The ultimate separation. When we don't want to name it, we call it something else. Management. Management is the antithesis of leadership. Leadership is a context that can only be realized in an evironment that supports free expression. Management is the concept that highly concerns itself, at the onset, to restricting the use of free expression, then any expression and finally it is forbidden to speak. Power and Control. By agreement. By management. Are you going to waste the moment of the Internet -- an evironment that is currently a place for free expression -- kill it off because you want to manage it? Or because you have defaulted and want to be managed? Look at the pettyness of the exchanges of what we are saying and doing to each other. Its not about partial pressures, jet fins, regulators, IANTD, blue holes, ass holes, or any holes. Its not about diving. Its about what isn't being said. What it is about is making a difference. To be heard. To speak. "What I really wanted ... was based on voice". The essence and expression of your soul, of your own creation, to be shared with others. Your being. This is the confirmation of the oneness where deeply felt pain of separation melts away ..... and you become who you really are. Then, and only then, can the discussions and disagreements about the issues of diving truly become authentic and exciting to talk and argue about. Out of the now real authenticity of it, the exchange, the communication, becomes empowering. It stands in reflection of who we are. Not of who we are not. And so life is a mirror. It mirrors back our perspective of the universe. Lessons mirrored back to us. An opportunity to learn what we have created. If life isn't a mirror, then its about cave diving. Then its all about what isn't. What a wonderful fucking game! ;-) Perhaps Your imperfections Are Your perfections. Joan.
