Hello, I use a 13 cu. ft. pony cylinder rather than 'spare air' because it is cheaper and more useful. The cylinder cost about $40. I purchased a slightly used regulator for $100 and added a hose for my DUI CF200 dry suit. When diving with SCUBA, I use the cylinder like 'spare air' but have never really had to use it. When diving with my Miller-Dunn shallow water helmet, I use it to inflate the dry suit. Recently, while at Santa Catalina on the Vision dive boat, I connected the helmet to a double 80 via a regulator and 50 feet of hose. I lowered the helmet and tank block by a line to the sea- bottom (42 feet deep). I descended on SCUBA with a safety diver and videographer. I doffed the SCUBA, put on the helmet and opened the air valve to the helmet. The pony is used to inflate the dry suit in case of emergency. This procedure is used to avoid using a tender on the boat and disconnect myself from the boat for legal reasons. Anyway, we got some good video of a helmeted diver walking around through the kelp forest! Norman Thomas UC-LLNL "Old divers never die, they just slowly sink" P.O.
