Ken Sallot's posting makes a lot of sense to me...I'd also like to add something about deep air and elevated pps of O2 from up here in the frozen north... 1.6 ata O2 up here is well beyond the accepted norm even on decos (I know a few people who still believe pure O2 works for staged decos in freezing water...but they're getting fewer and further between). 1.4 for a deco is considered more of a standard....1.6 apart for any other stuff simply gives you too small a time window to be of any use....factor in the temperature of the water, and 1.4 starts to sound high. On a swimming dive...not many folks up here ride the elevator to and from the dive site...1.3 and 1.2 become supportable. This means air's oxygen depth runs around 150...and that's not even considering the elevated narcosis that comes from freezing off your nuts...with apologies to the half of this list who have none (I'll let the reader be the judge of whether or not that's a double entendre). A lot of people think they're <good on deep air> I've dived with a few of them, and most of 'em are wrong: They have been lucky diving deep air. Now we're off to the Empress of Ireland with the tailings of a Hurricane up our ass. It's only about 140 feet but it's a very deep dive to do on air..... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Internet: steve.lewis@pr*.or* (Steve Lewis) This message lovingly processed in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario, Canada by: PrimeTime BBS - (705)689-1757 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
