Hi all,
I've been away from techdiver for the summer, and was stunned with the
first messages I read after resubscribing. It was more like grunts
in 'Nam discussing ("with the f-word hanging from thir lips like a
cigarette", to quote J. M. DelVecchio-no offence 'Nam Vets, quite the
opposite) than mature tech divers. I have a deep respect for the
diving & other merits of many of the persons participating in this
discussion, but it's beginning to crumble. Sometimes it's like my
kids (3 and 7 years) having an argument on whether Batman can beat
Spiderman.
I think we should all learn from Rich Pyle, who could flame people right and
left, but doesn't do so. For a guy like me only about to enter the real tekkie
world (mixed gases), this list has been most valuable source of
information. The funny thing is, that some guys presently
patricipating in this finger-waving have been just as helpful and
patient with me and my questions as Mr. Pyle in personal
communication, taking their time to explain me their views and
sharing their experience. I really do appreciate that.
If this list goes down the drain, or some experienced tekkies are kicked
out just because thy can't curb their frustrations, it would be a
terrible, terrible waste. On the other hand, I fully understand our list
manager's frustration, I'm sure these f-word contests and flame wars
weren't on his mind when he kicked this thing up. So it's up to
ourselves not to "eff" this list up.
Therefore I suggest that all of you who are cool, just ignore the
finger-waving, and soon we'll see who are the nerds not capable of
maintaining their cool. How's that sound?
Just my thoughts,
Juha Flinkman
