The advantage of the DIN valves lies in it's "captured O ring" design, not the
thickness of the threads. The DIN O ring can't easily extrude if the housing of
the regulator is bumped, as on a yoke attachment. It doesn't really matter if
the DIN is filed via a yoke adapter because a blown O ring during the tank
filling process would merely be an inconvenience. A blown O ring underwater,
though can be serious.
Some people use filler adapters to attach yoke regulators to
DIN tanks; but it isn't wise to cheat the system. Doing so actually adds an
extra O ring to the system, and another weak link.
Gary Gentile's ADVANCED WRECK DIVING has a good comparison of the two valve
styles.

Why are the thin threads of the DIN valve so much more secure than the
threads on the yoke screw and/or the brass form on the yoke itself?
Note that I dive with a DIN valve, I'm just not sure that it's all that
much more secure than a properly designed yoke.
Question: What do they use on YOUR DIN valve to fill it? On mine, they
use a fill block and a (yep) yoke.
