>who is properly prepared for "tech" diving. Frankly, I could really be >happy >if I never have to go through that again. No matter how "experienced" you >are, and emergency situation will be handled by you based solely upon your >intelligence and ability to remain calm. And if someone says "well, I'm >more >experienced, 'cause I've been in 100 diving emergencies" I'm gonna stay away >from that bozo like nuclear waste. I guess I somewhat agree with this position, in that I think that what keeps a person alive in an emergency is a cool head, and intelligent actions, but I would have to say that I definately think that after a person has a few close ones like this they will be much better prepared next time...if for no other reason than they learn what NOT to do. The last thing I'd ever want is a buddy that has NEVER had a problem, and I'd only seen share air or do those basics in a controlled situation. Also, from the story, a conscious decision to "push the button" and rocket to the surface would most always be a bad decision unless the person had absolutely NO TIME left to try other options and the other person had no source of air. I've personally had to grab people and HOLD THEM SOLID while I Practically force feed them a regulator...but...it worked and a safe ascent was made. If a person had 100 diving emergencies and I had to decide whether or not to dive with them, I would just want to know how many THEY caused by their incompetance, and how many were ones in which they were the hero. I want somebody who's prone to making good decisions. Tim Olson Deepdive@sa*.cv*.or*
